Utilizing Gaming To Spark Interest In and Expose Elementary School Students To Industrial Engineering

Engineering In an effort to introduce basic industrial engineering principles to elementary school students, a simple Roblox game consisting of math questions was created to teach the basics of optimization and other important industrial engineering topics. The purpose for conducting this research is to expose and help spark interest of Industrial Engineering in elementary school children. In the game, students will be given a series of math questions, then tasked with building a product, while trying to find the best and quickest way possible for completing this project. The main goal of this project is to teach, measure, and assess the mathematical and engineering aptitude of the students while creating a fun way for them to stay engaged and enjoy learning. To assess the findings of this research, a survey will be given to each participant before and after the experiment. The survey will be loosely based on the STEM Semantics Survey (Knezek & Christensen, 2008).
